In the first quarter of the Redskin vs. Giants game yesterday at the Met Life Stadium Redskin cornerback Josh Norman picks up Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. off the ground.

Norman had no reason to lift Beckham up during the game.

Beckham asked for a penalty to be put in effect, but nothing was called by officials.

JUst a Christian Belieber

During a live show in Paris Justin Bieber sings Christian song "I Will Sing of your Love Forever" audience quickly recognized the song and sang along leaving many fans in tears

Since the release of his studio album "Purpose" he has been openly proclaiming his love for Christ.Saying he wants to live his life like Christ though he knew he could never be like Christ.  Bieber affirmed his seriousness about his faith and plans on being proud and vocal about his beliefs. Bieber even invited Pastor Judah Smith to preach at one of his concerts and has a tattoo of Jesus' Hebrew name on his chest, Yeshua.

Justins actions are being perceived differently from the Christian community. Some say it is odd behavior, conservative Christians see it only as a publicity stunt. Others are delighted and are praying he stays on the Christian path.

NeUtral Game Site

Today, Brigham Young University (BYU) and West Virginia University (WVU)  battled at the FedEx Field, Landover, Md. With West Virginia winning 32-35.  The game was televised on ESPN2. This neutral-site game brought  BYU (1-3) to the East Coast to compete against the Big 12’s WVU (3-0).
The city of Landover is subtacialy far from both teams home town. For BYU it is 1,800 miles away and for WVU another 210 miles. Even with distance the 82,000 seated stadium was filled with fans. WVU has the most alumni in the Washington area after Pittsburgh.  Giving the team a great chance for Eastern fans to relive the glory days.
FedExField has played host to Division I college football games in the past , including Penn State vs. Indiana in 2010 and  Boise State vs. Virginia Tech and the Army-Navy game  and Notre Dame vs. Maryland in 2011 and Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati in 2012.

None's Not NUn's

The religiously unaffiliated also known as the “nones” usually those under the age of 30 say they just "stopped believing."

The American population consists of 25 percent of the nones a number greater than Catholics ( 21 percent ). Only a small percentage (seven percent) are looking for acceptance in religion. Studies that challenge the idea that those unaffiliated are leaving because of ridicule of gays and lesbians and frequent sex abuse scandals.

“Those things matter, but they are dwarfed by this central idea that people no longer believe in religious teachings,” said Daniel Cox, PRRI’s research director.

The survey was conducted with of 2,201 of American adults and began in late July early August of this year. The margin of error for the study is plus or minus 2.5 percent.

Some of the findings of the survey are:
  •  Eighteen percent of nones say “religion is important in their lives,” and 40 percent say they are “moderately spiritual.” The majority of the unaffiliated, 53 percent, describe themselves as neither religious nor spiritual.
  •  The majority of surveyors still believe in God — 22 percent say God is a “person,” and 37 percent see God as “an impersonal force.”
  •  Nones do not leave their religion due to negative experiences. Sixty percent said they just “stopped believing” in their childhood religion, while 32 percent blamed their family’s lack of commitment to religion. Twenty-nine percent — said negative religious teachings about gays and lesbians was essential to why they left religion and only 19 percent cited the clergy sex-abuse crisis.
  •  One in five nones says a belief in God is “necessary” to morality. However, the study, released Thursday (Sept. 22), is full of contradictions, too.
  • While only one-fifth of nones say morality is strengthened by a belief in God, and one in three believe children should be raised in a religion to gain “good values.”
Studies were conducted by The Public Religion Research Institute in partnership with Religion News Service; was funded by Stiefel Freethought Foundation and the Henry Luce Foundation.

First Gay Bishop: Anglican ChUrch Toronto

First openly gay bishop has been elected in Toronto district to serve The Anglican Church in Canada.

Rev. Canon Kevin Robertson’s election marks and historical moment becoming the bishop of Christ Church, Deer Park, in Toronto, reporters ChristianToday.com.

In his speech Robertson said, "I didn't really expect to be standing here on the steps, but I'm deeply, deeply honoured. I realise this is an historic day in the life of our church. It's no secret that I'm the first openly gay, partnered bishop-elect in the diocese and perhaps in the Canadian church as well, and I know that for some people that's a real challenge and for others it's the fulfilment of what they've been hoping and praying for a very long time. The peace and unity of the church is really important to me and I will work to continue that peace and unity as a bishop."

Robertson has two children with his partner. In 1997 he was an ordained deacon after he completed his Master of Divinity degree at Trinity College in Toronto.

Same sex-marriage has been accepted in The Anglican Church in Canada, three years before it was legal in Canada.

#CrUtcher

Christian Rapper Lecrea posted on his Twitter, "We weren't made to become hashtags." speaking on racial injustice.

Lecrea wrote his post and a series of others after the news of a fatal shooting of African-American Terrence Crutcher by female police officer Betty Shelby this week. This incident being the most recent of the series of police shootings leaving persons of African American descent dead. When many believed individuals were innocent and victims of racial profiling.

He latter goes on to write, “The #AllLivesMatter hashtag is like spitting in the face of black folk. It comes off as extremely selfish and unsympathetic to a mourning person. Not because all lives don't matter. Of course they do. But it's very clear that black lives don't to many in this country. No one goes up to lung cancer patients and says "Folks with Breast cancer matter too!" #AllCancerPatients matter. That's Insensitive. True faith stands up for the oppressed and the broken. Obviously many can't see the systemic effects of racism and abused authority.”

Sex AbUse and the ChUrch

Sexual abuse training has now become a graduation requirement for students at the Dallas Theological Seminary. Prospective ministers are now required to take "Ministry Safety" a one-hour entry- level certificate program. There are plans for a fuller course to be offered at the school in the spring which will require forty hours of training.  Mark Yarbrough, vice president of the school's academic affairs, spoke with the Dallas Morning News and said, "...this is a way we can help students become informed so that when they are leaders, they are better equipped on how to establish appropriate parameters in working with children." Daniel Aleshire, executive director of the Association of Theological Schools, was interviewed by the Religious News Service and said "the offerings are unique, especially for a religious school. “This is the first I know of an evangelical seminary with a free-standing requirement for graduation to participate in this kind of discrete training.” These requirements for this class was due to the awareness of the controversial Catholic Church's clergy sexual abuse crisis.

29 InjUred

Yet again, a bombing is all over the news. Laying down yesterday night my phone starting buzzing with notifications from the news apps I had downloaded for my media classes. My heart dropped as I read the headlines. All throughout the day as the notifications popped up; I said a silent prayer for the victims and their families.

The StrUggle is Real

Millennials a person who will reach young adulthood around the year 2000. (Including me) Those before us are baffled by the semi language barrier we have created. So linguist have created an app dictated to our lingo. So apparently, there's an application about younger people, but geared towards an more mature target market. I thought this was an interesting cry for acceptance from the older generation trying to reach the fountain of youth.

Agorithems and ActeUrs

I am a Mass CommUnication Major. This semester I am enrolled in Broadcast News course. This blog has been created for this class, and I have been asked to post news stories in which I found interesting. In searching for stories, I came across this particular one on the NY Times Website. It is the study of the screen time a female lead receives in movies by using audio and video technology with complex equations created by The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. In taking classes in my major concentration, I have noticed a correlation each between them. In my Intro to Film this semester we just completed a short discussion of the role of the woman in films. We mentioned how in Hollywood movies companies during the 1920's mistreat women behind the scene (many women were scriptwriters) and in front of the screen forcing women to protest and join unions to receive their human rights. This was caused by the pride and monopoly the White industry men possessed.  We also spoke on the Black Cinema Movement and their portrayal of women in films and how they gave African American women more of a stance in the culture. It was ironic to read this new article written in 2016 where women are still not receiving equal treatment in the Hollywood film industry.
